Whitestar is a full-service investigations firm that serves clientele in the Bay Area with several cases also being handled throughout the state.
Whitestar Group was founded in 2004 by Mark Adams, a former police officer. At its inception, the company focused mostly on private investigations. “Whitestar Group was initially founded primarily as a private investigations company. We were—and still are—a full-service investigations firm,” says Adams.
“We specialize in employer-related investigations, focusing on workplace issues. We work with a number of public entities including a large number of school districts. We also have a full surveillance division that specializes in insurance-related cases such as workers’ compensation fraud and property and casualty fraud claims.
“Many of our cases are interagency complaints that require HR investigations,” says Adams. “Other frequent service-related requests are from local attorneys, who will hire us to locate witnesses or heirs, conduct background investigations, obtain statements, do scene investigations or conduct asset investigations. Aside from insurance carrier requests for surveillance, many family law attorneys hire us to perform child custody investigations.”
While Whitestar is a standalone company, not part of a larger group, it does maintain working agreements with a number of other investigation and security firms throughout the country to handle investigations or security assignments that are outside its immediate coverage areas.
Adams continues, “In 2012, we started an Executive Protection division which provides armed plainclothes protection for high-net-worth individuals. In 2017, we expanded our security to include a Uniformed Guard division of both armed and unarmed guards. We have been entrusted with providing security to many of Sonoma County’s premier employers.”
Among the services Whitestar provides are stationary uniformed guard security (armed or unarmed) for both public entities and private businesses, patrol services, event security, and armed close protection/black car details (also known as executive protection).
“While our security division’s immediate coverage zone includes the entire Bay Area,” says Adams, “our investigation firm handles cases throughout the state. As the demand for our service increases, we will look to expand into Oregon and Nevada as well.”
As this expansion gets underway, Whitestar will continue to bolster its roles. “Our employee pool has been increasing monthly,” he continues. “We are always hiring. Regardless of the position, we recruit personnel who demonstrate integrity and reliability. We seek individuals with superior competency and interpersonal skills.”
The majority of Whitestar investigators hail from law enforcement. Most have attended and graduated from the Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation sponsored by the California Department of Justice, and many hold individual certifications which carry over into specialized fields of services for clients. These include fraud investigation and forensic accounting.
