To Celebrate Life Breast Cancer Foundation Announces
New Board of Directors President and New Board Members
Kentfield, CA (February, 2013) -- To Celebrate Life Breast Cancer Foundation, a volunteer-based nonprofit organization whose goal is to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone, is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeanne Capurro as the new President of their Board of Directors, and Rebecca Spencer and Gerard Bourguignon as new Board Members. Jeanne, Rebecca and Gerald will support the board’s efforts in raising awareness for To Celebrate Life’s programs, events, and fundraising efforts. www.tocelebratelife.org
“Becoming President of the To Celebrate Life Board is just one more way to serve this great organization,” said Jeanne Capurro. “So many volunteers giving of their time and talents to raise funds for our Grants program surround the Board of Directors. Working with all of them has always been an honor.”
Jeanne Capurro, new Board President, recently completed a term as Board Vice President. She joined the organization in 1997 after attending the second annual Stepping Out To Celebrate Life fundraiser. She served as Recording Secretary for Stepping Out until 2000 when she was invited to join the Board of Directors. Jeanne has also chaired the Silent Auction Committee and has been a part of the Stepping Out Executive Committee. A long time participant and supporter of Rally for the Cause (now Rally to Celebrate Life), she helped spearhead their union with To Celebrate Life Breast Cancer Foundation.
Jeanne has previously volunteered and served on the parents’ association board for San Domenico School and the board of Marin Tennis League. She lives in San Rafael with her husband of 52 years and has four grown children.
Rebecca Spencer, new Board member, became involved with To Celebrate Life in 2009 as a model in the Foundation’s annual Stepping Out fundraiser. That experience led to volunteering for the event the follow year, and later co-chairing the committee of volunteers who host the annual luncheon event for Stepping Out models, all of whom are breast cancer survivors.
Rebecca will be working on communications for To Celebrate Life, and brings over 30 years of sales, marketing and fundraising experience to her position. In the last eight years she has focused on addressing the residence and service needs of older adults. Originally from Dallas, she now resides in Novato with her husband and has three grown children.
Gerard (Gerry) Bourguignon, Ph.D., became involved with To Celebrate Life in 2010 as a model for the annual Stepping Out fundraiser. He volunteered for the 2011 Tee It Up and was on the 2012 planning committee, and also was on the 2012 model committee for Stepping Out. Until his diagnosis, he was unaware that men, too, could get breast cancer. He joined the Board with a main goal to increase both the awareness of male breast cancer and the availability of support for men who are dealing with the disease.
A recently retired college professor, Gerry will work on the To Celebrate Life Grants Committee that oversees the Foundation awards to Bay Area non-profits supporting breast cancer patients. Born and raised in Long Island, NY, he now lives with his wife in Mill Valley and has two grown children.
To Celebrate Life Breast Cancer Foundation is a nonprofit, volunteer-based organization whose members are breast cancer survivors, friends and supporters. Since its inception in 1996, the Foundation has raised and granted over $3.5 million dollars to local San Francisco Bay Area nonprofit organizations that help people living with breast cancer or who have breast health concerns. Its three major fundraisers are Stepping Out To Celebrate Life, Rally To Celebrate Life and Tee It Up To Celebrate Life. For more information, (415) 455-5882 or www.tocelebratelife.org
