From 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. visitors will enjoy complimentary wine tasting, including newly released wines, in the Charles Krug Tasting Room, and proprietor Peter Mondavi Jr. will be on hand Friday, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., to welcome guests and sign bottles.  The Tasting Room is part of a continuing legacy – Charles Krug himself opened the first winery tasting room in California in 1882.  Evidence of Napa Valley's wine history is everywhere: Charles Krug's original basket press is on display and history adorns the walls and counters.  The gleaming wine bars are made from the same redwood used to make redwood wine tanks for the Redwood Cellar.

In addition, the estate’s Redwood Cellar doors will be open all day, both days, for this special event.  Visitors will get a look at a 9000-gallon redwood fermentation tank and recent historic restorations in the Cellar, which was originally constructed in 1872 (National Register of Historical Landmarks #563).  Guitarist Jeffrey McFarland Johnson will perform in the Cellar both afternoons, on a guitar designed and crafted by David Heitzman of the Napa Guitar Company. Heitzman will also be on hand to talk about his craft and how he selected the redwood for the Charles Krug guitar from planks recovered from historic redwood wine tanks, which bathed in wine for nearly 70 years.  (The exceptional instrument debuting today will be auctioned off at Charles Krug’s annual Tastings on the Lawn event, September 8th, to benefit music programs in the Napa Valley.)

A very special tasting of Family Reserve and Limited Release wines will be available in the Redwood Cellar both days, for a tasting fee of $40.00.  On Saturday from 1 – 4 p.m., guests will meet Alycia and Angelina Mondavi, who will be pouring the Family Reserve tasting.

Fee: $0.00
