Attorney Joseph Kinkade will be the keynote speaker on Tuesday, February 3, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Empire College School of Law, 3035 Cleveland Avenue, Santa Rosa.
Joseph Kinkade will speak on the topic The Field of Law: Is It For You? at an informational seminar presented by Empire College School of Law. The seminar will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3, at the College campus, 3035 Cleveland Avenue, Santa Rosa.
Mr. Kinkade came to Lozano Smith this year in an "Of Counsel" capacity after having served the past 16 years advising northern California school districts on various legal matters. Prior to that, he served as a teacher and then an administrator in California school districts beginning in 1973. Mr. Kinkade received his undergraduate degree and teaching credentials at Chico State College. He attended law school at night while serving as a school administrator during the day and received his law degree (cum laude) from Empire College School of Law in 1991.
Mr. Kinkade’s areas of expertise include labor and employment, including employee discipline and dismissal matters, grievance arbitrations, hearings before the PERB, and the resolution of disputes before the DFEH and EEOC. He also deals extensively with student discipline matters, including expulsions, and has successfully sought and obtained hundreds of restraining orders in courts throughout northern California on behalf of school and college districts.
In addition to Mr. Kinkade, Empire College School of Law alumna Julie Cyphers will be present to discuss her career prior to and after law school. Ms. Cyphers has been working in the field of immigration law since 1998. In February 2008, she took the bar exam and passed on her first try. She is an Associate Attorney at the Law Office of Maureen McSorley, where she worked during law school.
