In conjunction with SFMOMA's Photography in Mexico exhibition, Patricia Albers will discuss the turbulent life and ground-breaking photography of Italian-born photographer and activist Tina Modotti.

Event Description

Patricia Albers is the author of Shadows, Fire, Snow: The Life of Tina Modotti (Clarkson Potter/ University of California Press), selected by the Library Journal as a Best Book of 1999.  She is also the curator of the 1999 “Dear Vocio: Photographs by Tina Modotti” (University of California, San Diego, Art Gallery) and the co-curator of the 2000“Tina Modotti and the Mexican Renaissance” (Moderna Museet, Stockholm; Helsinki City Museum; and Arles Photography Festival). In addition, Albers is a long-time lecturer in art history at San Francisco State University and San Jose State University. Albers’s website iswww.patriciaalbers.net
