PRECIOUS CARGO Opening Celebration
Join us at the opening celebration for Precious Cargo, an exhibition of California Indian cradle baskets and childbirth traditions.
Sonoma County Museum
Event Description

For centuries, California Indians have relied on cradle baskets as a way to carry their infants and keep them safe. However, in addition to their functional attributes, they also play a role in shaping a child's character and directing his or her future. Today, renewed cultural pride among California Indians is finding expression in the creation and gift-giving of traditional cradle baskets; while sharing knowledge about the gathering, sorting and weaving techniques involved in this time-honored tradition. This exhibit represents their stories, and the stories of all those who have played with, carried, or occupied a cradle basket of their own.

Admission is free but the Sonoma County Museum asks for a small donation to support the exhibition and reception.

Fee: $0.00
