Event Description

Join us for an insiders look at the exhibition Precious Cargo and then visit the Grace Hudson Museum in Ukiah for a close-up look at Pomo baskets with Museum Director Sherrie Smith-Ferri.  Afterwards, there is an optional visit to the City of 10,000 Buddhas for lunch. Transportation and lunch are not included.

Your tour will start with a docent-led tour of Precious Cargo at the Sonoma County Museum.  The group will then drive north to Ukiah to the Grace Hudson Museum.  Smith-Ferri is a member of the Dry Creek Pomo Tribe and a nationally recognized California Indian basketry scholar.  She  talk about the making and uses of Pomo baby baskets.  We will then tour Sun House and the museum looking at different types of Pomo baskets up close and in paintings.
