Firehouse Restaurat, 1112 2nd Street, Sacramento,
The Wood Products Council’s WoodWorks program is hosting a seminar in San Diego, Calif. focused on building taller and bigger multi-story wood buildings. The seminar offers a detailed analysis of Type III and V building types and how they are utilized to create structures with five-plus stories of wood-frame construction under the International Building Code. Provided by an expert in wood design and engineering, it will cover height and area provisions in depth, including podiums and mezzanines.
Discussion will also include common detailing choices at exterior walls to accommodate fire, structural and aesthetic requirements. As well, methods for calculating and accommodating for shrinkage in wood buildings will be reviewed. Examples of various building configurations and site layouts will be used to illustrate common methods for increasing unit density.
