Practical Public Relations: Honing Your Message for Success
Don’s workshop on practical public relations
Event Description

With the arrival of digital communications and the social media age, there are endless opportunities to reach new audiences with your messages, and just as many chances to miss the mark and blow the chance to get your crucial points across to the people you need to reach the most.

In Don’s workshop on practical public relations, he draws on decades of personal experience as a reporter, political campaigner, and communications strategist to show participants how best to identify their audience, hone their message, and best utilize the myriad means of public communication readily available at their fingertips.

This session will focus less on theory and much more on real-world experience and how it can be applied to local communications efforts through lively give-and-take among the workshop participants.

Don Prial is a skilled public relations and public affairs counselor who has created specialized communications programs for corporations, government agencies, not-for-profit groups, and trade associations. Clients in more than a dozen states have been as large as 3M and as small as a local police department. His areas of expertise include media relations, communications audits, crisis communications, political campaign management, speech writing, media training, corporate philanthropy, and marketing support.

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Don has been a board member of the Sonoma & Mendocino Counties chapter of the American Red Cross as well as Becoming Independent where he chaired both organizations’ public affairs committees, and a five-year member of Sonoma County Tourism’s marketing committee. He also is a former president of the Mendocino Music Festival’s Board of Directors.
