Event Description

West Coast fiber artists played a significant role in the development of the field, and are now gaining international status in art museums.  The practice of craft in the textile arts links to fashion, design, fine arts, sculpture and architecture.  Fiber artists today continually push the boundaries and expectations of their work.  In this talk, Carole Beadle will examine the breadth of the field, peeking at the past and moving into the future. Those in the field and non-artists will be inspired by the scope of accomplishment.

Carole Beadle is a professor emeritus in Textile Arts at the California College of the Arts where she originated classes in Fiber Sculpture and taught students at the graduate level. She also presently teaches a Fiber Arts program at the College of Marin.  She received her BFA from Syracuse University and her MFA from the California College of Arts and Crafts. Ms. Beadle is a practicing studio artist and has received numerous awards and grants, including a Fulbright Scholar, a Fine Arts Award in the International Textile Exhibition in Kyoto, Japan, and artist-in-residency grants in Taos, New Mexico, and Plaisance, France. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at the Smithsonian, the De Young Museum, Chateau Coupiac, France, and the American Embassy in Norway.
