Guide to a Successful Remodel + Universal Design

Join us Saturday, November 14th for a free, 2-part workshop featuring Andrée Langlois

Guide to a Successful Remodel

Considering a remodel or new building project but not sure how to begin?  We can help you get your bearings.  While the prospect of a remodel or new building project is exciting, facing the hundreds of decisions you'll have to make is often overwhelming. A beautiful remodel requires careful planning.

Learn how the design and building processes work best together for an enjoyable and smooth project. With a well-chosen design team, you can make your dream project a reality without losing your mind!

Universal Design – It’s your Home.  Stay forever.

Learn what Universal Design is, why we all need it, the background of its development and how it differs from ADA. For many homeowners remodeling or building new today, their current home will be their final home. Many families today are returning to a multi-generational living style with young children, adults and elders all living together.  Universal Design encompasses the concepts of “barrier-free,” “accessible” and “aging-in-place”.  With designers and product manufacturers responding to increased demand, the institutional look has been replaced with beautiful design that will enhance your home.

When considering your project, be sure to plan for the functional housing needs of all ages by implementing elements of universal design to personalize your project.   We’ll show you how you can have a beautiful remodel that is also intrinsically functional and family friendly.

Andrée Langlois

is an interior designer with broad experience in residential, commercial, and health care facilities. She has extensive experience applying the ADA Standards for Accessible Design in commercial interiors and also believes in the importance of applying universal design principles in residential construction. She has written and published The Residential Universal Design Guide, A Manual for Architects, Interior Designers, and Builders. Andrée feels strongly that code compliance and accessibility standards need not interfere with good design.

Andrée holds a Master of Arts Degree in Interior Design with emphasis in Accessible and Universal design from San Francisco State University. She is also an Adjunct Instructor in Interior Design at Santa Rosa Junior College where she teaches Barrier–Free Design, Space Planning, and Portfolios.

Dave Leff, president of Leff Construction, has been leading his company since founding it in 1978.  Over the years he has applied many different building philosophies and methods including solar and sustainable building, historical renovation and infill real estate development. He is interested in innovative building approaches and has added the best of these into his design-build systems at Leff Construction.  During the late 1990's, Dave taught "The ABC's of Remodeling" at Santa Rosa Junior College educating homeowners and contractors about the remodeling process. Dave frequently contributes design-build and construction articles to trade magazines and local publications and participates regularly in remodeling workshops and panels.  His company was selected to join the Remodeling Magazine Big50 in 2008, and he currently serves on the board of the Sebastopol chapter of Rebuilding Together.

Our workshops are always free, always fun, and of course we will have delicious snacks. Because space is limited, advance registration is required.  Please arrive a few minutes early to get settled in.
