Forty years ago, the Running Fence had a profound effect on our community.
History Museum of Sonoma County
Event Description

Forty years ago, the Running Fence had a profound effect on our community. For this panel we have brought together Jan Sofie, who worked on the Running Fence, Joe Pozzi, who was Ed Pozzi's sons (Ed Pozzi was one of the ranchers hosting the Fence on his land), Lucy Kortum, whose husband led the opposition to the Fence, and Tom Anderson, who was hired as the geologist for the Fence project. In 1976, Jan Sofie was a Sonoma State University student who was hired through her professor, Bill Moorehouse. Joe Pozzi is a fourth-generation rancher who has raised sheep and cattle all his life, and is a community leader dedicated to land conservation and the economic viability of family farms and ranches. Lucy Kortum with her late husband, Bill Kortum, spent a lifetime championing environmental causes. Tom Anderson was also a faculty member in Geology at SSU for many years until his retirement.
