SoCo Dance Theater responds to the wildfires of 2017.
Art Museum of Sonoma County
SoCo Dance Theater responds to the wildfires of 2017 through live performance, two dance films and works by guests Creative Community Movement Collective and Tanya Tolmasoff of UPside Dance Company.
The two films are choreographic responses to the October 2017 Wildfires. The dance film “Exiled Asylum” was shot in Coffey Park two months after the fires with dance students from the Santa Rosa Junior College (many of whom lost their homes), led by Tanya Tolmasoff of UPside Dance Company. SoCo Dance Theater’s dance film “Wildfires through the Heartwood” commemorates the impact of the 2017 fires on Root 101, Sculpture Garden by Bruce Johnson, which was located at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts. SoCo Dance Theater with guest artists performed in the sculpture garden live in the spring of 2017. Film footage of our performance before the fires, then after, with fire damaged sculptures and empty garden, have been woven together into our new film "Wildfires through the Heartwood."
SoCo Dance Theater is a multi-generational dance company of Sonoma County dancers/choreographers who seek to explore and share within our community the power and passion of dance. We have performed in site-specific venues throughout Sonoma County, Sebastopol Center for the Arts, and Sonoma State University in Ives Hall and the Evert B. Person Theater. We have been offering a series of Movers & Makers Workshops, with the intent of bringing together the dance community of Sonoma County to engage in and examine the process of making dances.
Event Sponsor receives 2 tickets and recognition in the Museum\\\'s marketing materials. Event sponsorships are fully tax-deductible.
