Museum of Sonoma County
During this program, North Bay-based kinetic artist Ned Kahn will discuss his career, interests, people who have mentored and inspired him, challenges, creative process and conceptual approaches to his work.
Ned Kahn’s artworks are activated by wind, light, or water. He is interested in how patterns form and are revealed when things flow; the patterns are dynamic recurring themes in nature.
In the last 30 years, Kahn has completed over 100 major public art projects. During his residency at the Exploratorium, Kahn worked on interactive sculptures that acted as scientific “registers” that reveal some invisible or unnoticed phenomena. In recent years he has collaborated with architects and designers on large-scale public kinetic art projects that are integrated into the fabric of the built environment, thereby influencing the design of the building and landscape. Much of his current work involves energy gathering or saving systems. He is currently creating a water feature that will be powered by passing buses in a new transit center in San Francisco.
Doors open at 6:30pm, the TALK begins at 7:00pm.
