Event Description

Join historian Michael Wallace for a presentation on Shaker furniture and its design elements. The lecture will look at how this small religious sect’s furniture has influenced the Arts and Crafts movement as well as Mid-Century Modern designers and continues to hold our interest today. Wallace will provide various Shaker pieces to view, and explore the reasons behind the enduring interest in the Shaker style. 
Michael Wallace is an amateur historian. His current interest is tracing the development of different furniture styles. In the past, he’s been the president of the Sonoma County Woodworkers Association and at one time the director of its Artistry in Wood show. Currently retired, Michael had a long career in the technology field having worked for Apple, Oracle, and a smattering of startups. He lives with his wife and their dog in the outskirts of Sebastopol where’s he is desperately trying to improve his woodworking skills.

The Maker\\\'s tour is included with admission. No pre-registration is needed. Space is available on a first-come basis.
