Gary Nelson

Author: Luke Straub
June, 2019 Issue

Gary Nelson, founder of Gary D. Nelson Associates, has lived in the North Bay since 1961. Originally, the Modesto native planned a career in journalism or public relations, but when he was called to serve in Vietnam, his career path took a new direction. When he returned, he landed a position in the human resources business and founded a human capital management firm. Nelson built his company to be among the most successful staffing agencies in the area. He calls Sonoma home now, with his wife of 38 years, Marcia. The couple has four sons and seven grandchildren and is more involved than ever in the community. After Nelson stepped down as chairman of the Nelson Family of Companies in 2011, he formed For You From Me Creations LLC. The production company, started in 2017, creates musicals and raises funds for nonprofits.
